The A3 paper size is bigger than A5. A3 is 297 mm x 420 mm whereas A5 is 148 mm x 210 mm. The smaller the number in the A paper size format, the larger it is. That’s why A0 is the largest paper size in the format. A5 is a quarter the size of A3. The table below is based on printing a portrait document at 300dpi (dots per inch) – meaning it’ll print in really high quality. You can use these measurements to set up your document in your preferred design software program based on what size product you want. We've also included the paper size in pixels further down in this blog to help! I did a lot of research into what canvas size and resolution I should use for a whole bunch of different purposes, and I rarely run into issues any more.

You can rely on this to optimise the luminosity of your translucent colours. When paint is pushed across the textured weave of a canvas it grabs on to the ridges of the warp and weft, creating the most subtle undulations in saturation which maximises colour vibrancy. A few problems can emerge if you don’t pay attention to your canvas size, both during the painting process and afterward. These can be separated into 2 situations, either having a canvas that is too small, or one that’s too big: Consequence of canvas size too small

The start of the painting is when you’ll probably be making the largest changes and using the biggest brushstrokes, but as soon as you start making smaller changes and using a smaller brush size, increase the canvas size. Increase it up as far as you can before the software gets sluggish. And since a small canvas can't be used for many things after finishing, you want to be able to make a larger finished painting. When setting up flag artwork, we recommend using one of our templates and filling the entire area with your artwork. A bigger canvas means you’ll be able to do more things with it once it’s finished. The consequences of your canvas size being too big are all during painting. A large canvas can cause your painting software, and even your whole pc, to run much slower and lag.

Here’s my general rule of thumb: If you just want to show it on the internet and on social media, a good canvas size for digital art is a minimum of 2000 pixels on the long side, and 1200 pixels on the short side. Our canvas wall prints are offered in several standard sizes which should suit most purposes. They start at 12 x 16 inch and go up to 24 x 34″ for the large canvas art. These canvas sizes are typical of what is offered on most canvas stores and galleries. Square canvas art is also available for those pieces of art that are in that format. Bespoke Canvas PrintsIf you try this method and aren’t able to hit the final goal size by the end of the painting, you may need to come to terms with the fact that either you need to lower your expectations for how smooth your software will run, or print your finished art smaller. We name our exhibition stand sizes in numbers like this because of the amount of panels in each one. All of our stands are split into 3 sections (2 are not fully visible) and the middle section is split depending on how big the stand is.
