Flash: Our manufacturer-specified testing (shown at right) shows bright results at wide-angle at the reported distance of 12. Unfortunately neither the Casio Exilim EX-Z33 nor Fujifilm FinePix J30 provides any type of weather sealing in their bodies, so you have to give extra care especially when you are shooting outdoors. The Auto result is close to acceptable; some users may like the warm tones, as being evocative of the original lighting. Casio EX-Z33 was introduced to the market in August 2009 and Fujifilm J30 was launched in July 2009.

Summer time means visiting the seaside, riverside, or your local pool - these are times for fun in and out of the water. Ultimately, the Fujifilm Z33WP is good at helping you capture images for printing at 4x6 sizes and for sharing on the Web. I don't use my camera for any professional pictures, and my pictures are great quality and look fantastic. Movies are saved in AVI format using QuickTime Motion JPEG compression, and are captured using a dedicated Movie record button which is separate from that used to trigger still image capture. This was especially annoying when the camera was in auto mode, as it often mistakenly chose night mode when shooting indoors, which seems to crank the flash up even more.If you're a little less style-forward and able to wait (what can sometimes seem quite a while) for your shots, the higher image quality of the Olympus 550WP will likely carry the day. does not recommend it as an indoor camera, however, nor does its lack of true mechanical image stabilization. The soft, rubbery rise gives the only thumbgrip on the Fujifilm Z33WP, and to achieve that you have to rest your thumb on the upper right corner of the LCD, covering part of the view. Fuji claims a usable distance for this of up to 12 feet, but we didn't find it to be effective to more than 10 feet at most.

We found that the movies captured by the Z33WP were not particularly sharp: the captured movies looked blocky, with little detail and jerky motion. Reproduction in whole or part in any form or medium without specific written permission is prohibited. If we just concentrated on the center of the frame, its prints at low ISO looked OK at sizes up to 8x10 inches, but it was hard to get around the extreme softness in the corners, and there was some fringing (chromatic aberration? The center mode uses a small area in the center of the frame to focus on, while the multi mode looks for a high-contrast object near he center of the frame and uses that to focus on. Worth noting is the Movie mode button at the bottom right on the back that lets you go straight to recording video clips. The Z33WP provides a decent selection of image quality and size options, with 6 different sizes on offer, and two levels of quality available at the highest resolution.

To make room for that screen but keep the body small all of the controls are in 2 columns so if you're used to a more typical camera control layout will take some time to adjust to. It actually does a lot more than trim, though, it allows you to edit the image's brightness, contrast, and color, as well as several other effects. This re-sizes images to a cyber-friendly size so you can quickly and easily pop your pics on social networking sites such as Facebook and Flickr for all to see and enjoy. You cannot use the zoom controls while recording, but you can zoom in before you start recording a video. The Olympus is a much tougher camera, though; the company claims that it can handle drops from up to 6.

It's all about the layout of light-collecting diodes inside this 12-megapixel point-and-shoot, which can be re-tasked for different lighting conditions. Both had adequate color and reasonable noise performance, but the Fuji did slightly better on our resolution tests, which look at how well the camera can capture detail. I bought this camera because I wanted a water proof camera for kayak trips; I have a small mount on my boat for this purpose. Darker skin tones are pushed toward a warmer, orange cast, while lighter skin tones are pretty close to accurate.

Incandescent: Both the Auto and Incandescent white balance settings had trouble with our tungsten lighting test, as the Auto produced a reddish cast and the Incandescent setting a warm, yellow cast. The Fuji Z33WP doesn't offer much in the way of manual controls, instead focusing on simplicity and ease of use. The Canon D10 is also a much tougher camera: it is waterproof down to 33 feet (against the 10 feet of the Fuji), can deal with temperatures of 14 degrees Fahrenheit (Fuji gives no information on the cold-proofing of the Z33WP) and can handle a drop from up to 4 feet (again, Fuji does not give any info on shockproofing of the Z33WP). There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. The camera is good for anyone taking vacation pictures, friends and family pictures, and memory pictures.
